Schenectady man arrested on gun, drug charges in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Albany Police arrested a Schenectady man on Monday night during a stop near Second Street. Russell Piper, 24, is facing several felony charges.

On March 31 around 6 p.m., Community Response Unit detectives approached Piper on his e-bike near Second Street and Henry Johnson Boulevard while following up on an ongoing investigation. While speaking with Piper, police found that he allegedly had a loaded handgun and cocaine with him.

Piper was taken into custody at the scene. He now faces the following charges:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

Piper was held in Albany County Jail after being arraigned at Albany City Criminal Court on Tuesday morning.
