BRUNSWICK, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) – An early morning fire in the Town of Brunswick left two people and two pets displaced on Saturday. According to Jay Wilson, the Rensselaer County Public Safety Director, a resident of the home on fire at 180 McChesney Avenue in Brunswick, made a call to the Rensselaer County 911 center at 6:16 a.m. The two people, a cat and a dog got out of the home. They are currently staying with family.

Wilson said he believes the home is a total loss after a fire erupted on the second floor of the house. Code enforcement in the Town of Brunswick will determine if the home needs to be demolished. Several fire departments responded to the call and attacked the fire from all angles. Wilson said that due to a nearby fire hydrant, the fire was able to be hit with water quickly.
“The good thing is they have fire hydrants in the Town of Brunswick, so that helps out the fire department immensely,” Wilson said. “So they had enough water, but the fire was going pretty good; there was a little bit of wind, and it was on the second floor already up in the attic.”
Despite the manpower, according to Wilson, the home had active solar panels on the roof, which posed a challenge to some of the fire crews.
