CDTA marks highest ever annual ridership levels

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) announced its highest ever yearly ridership count on Wednesday. In its 2025 Fiscal Year, which ran from April 2024 to March 2025, the company recorded more than 18.4 million boardings throughout the public transportation system.

The count is reportedly 12% higher than last year. It also marks the highest total in the company’s 54-year history, CDTA said.

“CDTA is proud of this accomplishment and is proud to provide mobility solutions to its customers in the Capital Region,” said Interim CDTA CEO Michael Collins.

CDTA offers several public transportation options throughout the Capital Region, such as STAR, which serves those with disabilities; DRIVE, a carsharing service; and FLEX On Demand. According to the company, all mobility options saw an increase in ridership numbers compared to last year — STAR with a 4% increase, FLEX On Demand with 11%, Northway Xpress with 8% and Thruway Express with 2%.
