Thunderstorm bringing hail, high winds expected to roll through Capital Region

ALBANY — The National Weather Service has issued watches and warnings for the Capital Region as a thunderstorm sweeps over the area Saturday afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm warning was initially issued just before 1 p.m. for parts of Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer and Albany counties, warning of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. It remains in effect until 2:30 p.m. for northeastern Columbia County and southeastern Rensselaer County, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible throughout the region, and there is marginal risk for tornados in Schoharie and Schenectady counties, northern Albany and Rensselaer counties and southern Montgomery, Saratoga and Washington counties, according to a graphic from the National Weather Service …
