Albany mother seeks answers after infant’s death at Albany Medical Center

ALBANY, N.Y. — A grieving mother in Albany is demanding answers after her one-month-old daughter, Milani, died at Albany Medical Center last week. Shamaya Jackson, Milani’s mother, spoke out about the tragic loss, describing her daughter as “the light to everything in this house.”

Milani, affectionately known as Mimi, was admitted to the hospital twice for a cough and congestion. After the second visit, she never returned home. Jackson, who has polycystic ovary syndrome and was unsure if she could have children, described Milani as her “second miracle baby.”

“They said she had something called HMPV, which is a common cold,” Jackson said, recounting the initial diagnosis. Despite being discharged, Milani’s condition did not improve, prompting a return to the hospital. “They were saying they had to treat what she had aggressively,” Jackson said. “And I’m like, I don’t understand because from downstairs to upstairs, they were saying that this is a normal cold, you know. So what is that you need to treat aggressively?”…
