BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A judge ruled Tuesday that Dennis Drue will be back in custody until his next court hearing on June 5. The next court hearing will determine if Drue will go back to prison for allegedly violating his conditional discharge from his sentencing in 2013.

Drue walked back into Saratoga County Court Tuesday afternoon as a free man, but when he left, he was in handcuffs on his way back to jail. Family members of the victims Drue killed sat in court Tuesday –hugging each other after the judge’s ruling.
“I think it’s like a wind that’s lifted up our sails today,” said Brian Rivers, the father of one of the victims Deanna Rivers. “It was very emotional for the four of us, you know, as you witnessed in the courtroom we were all hugging and holding tears back.”
Drue previously served nine and a half years in prison for killing two Shenendehowa High School students, Deanna Rivers and Christopher Stewart, and injuring two others in a drunk driving crash in 2012.
