Coxsackie under state investigation over boutique hotel construction

COXSACKIE — New York state is investigating the village of Coxsackie over the construction of a waterfront luxury hotel in 2022.

The Department of State confirmed the probe to the Times Union on Friday afternoon. Its existence has not been previously reported.

In early 2022, Selkirk-based developer Aaron Flach and his Empire Riverfront Ventures began building the Newbury Hotel and the Wire Events Center to different specifications than the village Planning Board had approved, including adding an unapproved fifth floor. In March, the village lodged a stop-work order against the hotel after neighbors and Village Trustee Katlyn Irwin complained to Mayor Mark Evans about obvious discrepancies between the submitted plans and what was visibly rising in the middle of the small community…
