New mentorship program offered for Capital Region men

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) – The Albany Community Land Trust Gun Violence Prevention Program held The Power of Mentorship Breakfast at the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area on Saturday. Over 100 people gathered to announce the start of a new mentorship program called the Men on a Mission. According to Michael Williams, the facilitator of Men on a Mission and the coordinator of the Albany Community Land Trust Gun Violence Prevention Program, it’s a collaboration between over a dozen men’s organizations in the Capital Region.

“We’re on a mission to bring all men’s groups together. Every single men’s group that we could find in the capital district,” Williams said. “518 Elevate, Brothers United; Men on a Mission is all those groups, including the police department, and the sheriff’s department.”

Williams said the program is meant to provide mentorship to men of all ages who may have lost their way. The role models will guide men towards success in their career path, financial goals, and personal growth.

“I believe that’s what was missing in Albany; there was a lot of division, but now it’s taking away that cell group of my Brothers Keeper working alone, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, or the Boys and Girls Club working along,” Williams said. “Together we see a sense of strength, unity, and bonding, and we’re being more impactful, more unified.”
