Firebirds use dominant second half to corral Kats; inch closer to securing No. 1 seed

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) – Momentum is a powerful thing in sports. If not for a nine-point swing just before halftime, the outcome of Saturday’s clash between the Albany Firebirds and Nashville Kats might’ve been very different.

After Nashville had taken a 28-21 lead with 47 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Albany quarterback Sam Castronova took just 42 seconds to orchestrate a 45-yard touchdown drive – paid off by a brilliant, one-handed catch from Darien Townsend in the corner of the end zone. Henry Nell provided the PAT before then kicking a deuce on the ensuing kickoff, giving the Firebirds a 30-28 lead going into the locker room.

With momentum on their side coming out of the break, Albany proceeded to score the first three touchdowns of the second half to open up a sizeable, 51-28 advantage, before going on to secure a 71-55 victory, improving to 8-0 on the season…
