Albany man behind bars, charged in two incidents 12 hours apart

ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Albany man has been charged twice in one day in connection with two separate incidents, one of which involved assaulting police officers.

On Monday, May 12, 2025 around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to Townsend Park Apartments located at 45 Central Avenue for reports of an individual who was trespassing. Upon arrival, officers observed Brian Briggs, 32, and attempted to engage with him. According to police, Briggs became combative and refused to comply with lawful commands. As officers attempted to detain him, he began to fight with them, restricting one officer’s breathing by placing his arm around the officer’s neck and punching another officer in the face, causing injury to the officer’s nose. Briggs was ultimately taken into custody.

Briggs was charged with one count of Assault 2nd, one count of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, one count of Resisting Arrest, one count of Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Criminal Trespass 3rd…
