CDTA Nature Bus returning to Albany for fifth year

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Nature Bus will returning to Albany for its fifth year this Saturday. The free service, organized by the Capital District Transportation Authority and the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, will bring riders to nature spaces around the Capital Region.

Trips will run every Saturday until October 4, beginning this weekend. This year’s Nature Bus locations will include:

2025 Nature Bus locations

  • Tivoli Lake Preserve and Farm, Albany
  • Albany Pine Bush Preserve’s Six Mile Waterworks Park, Albany
  • Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail, Slingerlands
  • DEC’s Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, Delmar
  • Thacher State Park, Voorheesville
  • Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy’s Accessible Fisher Trail in partnership with DEC’s Five Rivers Education Center, Slingerlands

The bus will also bring riders to larger community events throughout the summer, such as:

2025 Nature Bus event destinations

  • “Learn to Fish Clinic” at Six Mile Waterworks on May 31, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • “Get Outside and Get Together Day” at Five Rivers on June 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • “Bug Fest” at Five Rivers on Aug. 9
  • “Harmony on the Hill” at Thacher Park on Aug. 30
  • “Fall Festival” at Five Rivers on Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Nature Bus will have two routes — the Yellow Warbler Route and the Green Beaver Route — that will operate every other weekend. The two routes hit most of the same locations but have one or two additional stops that the other does not cover.   • Yellow Warbler Route: May 24, June 7, 21, July 5, 19, August 2, 16, 30, and September 13, 27
  • Green Beaver Route: May 31, June 14, 28, July 12, 26, August 9, 23, September 6, 20, October 4

Nature Bus destinations will also host free family-friendly educational programming for visitors arriving by bus. Activities will include guided hikes, birding and arts and crafts. A full list of programs for each weekend can be found on the online
