Police: Bystanders catch robbery suspect in Guilderland

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Guilderland man is accused of forcibly taking a woman’s purse near Stuyvesant Plaza before attempting to flee the scene. Matthew Cattell, 32, faces multiple charges.

Charges

  • Third-degree robbery
  • Fourth-degree grand larceny
  • Third-degree grand larceny
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Third-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Third-degree menacing
  • Third-degree attempted assault

Police said Cattell was pursued, stopped, and held by bystanders until officers arrived on scene. Cattell was arrested, arraigned, and released under the supervision of probation.
