Amsterdam man accused of killing dog

FLORIDA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An Amsterdam man is accused of animal cruelty against a small dog. Harold Lampkin Sr., 66, faces multiple charges.

Charges

  • Aggravated cruelty to animals
  • Three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon with a previous felony conviction
  • Two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said it received a complaint on May 22 from a resident saying her five-year-old Dachshund and Chihuahua Chow Mix died unexpectedly in the care of someone else. Deputies found during an initial investigation that the dog’s death was suspicious, prompting further investigation.

The sheriff’s office found where the dog was buried and exhumed the animal, transporting him to Glen Animal Hospital for a full necropsy to determine the cause of death. After the necropsy was conducted, it was found that he dog’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

Deputies then determined Lampkin was a suspect in the incident and he was taken into custody on June 4. Investigators reported finding a rifle and other dangerous instruments illegally in Lampkin’s possession following the execution of a search warrant.

Lampkin was arraigned in Florida Town Court and placed in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail…
