Albany school speed zone cameras change to summer hours

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — With kids reaching summer vacation, the school zone speed cameras in Albany are changing over to summer hours. Although some schools may not offer summer activities or programs, some speed cameras will operate on shorter hours throughout the summer.

Below is a list of schools and the times and dates the speed cameras will be in use. Albany Police Department officials said the speed cameras will turn on one hour before school starts and turn off an hour after school ends.

Summer hours

  • Albany High School: Cameras will be activated July 9 through August 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Albany Leadership Charter School: Cameras will be activated July 9 through August 18, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • All Saints Academy: Cameras will be activated June 30 through August 29, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Blessed Sacrament School: Cameras will be activated June 30 through August 8, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • The Albany Academies: Cameras will be activated July 9 through August 29, from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Thomas O’Brien Academy/Hackett Middle School: Cameras will be activated July 7 through August 7, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Meyers Middle School: Cameras will be activated July 7 through August 7, from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Albany School of Humanities: Cameras will be activated July 7 through August 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Pine Hills Elementary School: Cameras will be activated July 9 through August 1, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Green Tech High School: Cameras will be activated July 7 through August 1, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Academy of the Holy Name: Cameras will be activated June 30 through August 29, from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Kipp Tech Valley Schools: Cameras will be activated July 7 through August 15, from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The posted speed limit in Albany school zones is 20 mph, with the city’s maximum speed limit of 25 mph. Drivers must yield to any pedestrians in the roadway or crosswalks.
