Albany County launches street psychiatry program

ALBANY — The county is launching a new program to help address the mental health needs of homeless residents.

County Executive Dan McCoy said the pilot street psychiatry program is meant to reach people across the county who are traditionally unable to get help or follow through with needed medical care. The goal is to build on the city of Albany’s and the county’s existing behavioral health resources.

“Basically, we’re going to give them their prescription right there, right on the street to go get filled, so they can really get the help that they need,” McCoy said at a news conference Monday introducing the program…
