On June 25 around 3:20 p.m., Albany Police approached the two teens in regard to an ongoing investigation in the area. Detectives stated the two initially fled the scene on e-bikes before being taken into custody around First and Quail Streets a short time later.

Investigators determined that Swift allegedly discarded a backpack in an alley on Quail Street near Third Street during the chase. The execution of a search warrant yielded the recovery of a loaded handgun inside the bag, according to police. At the time of the arrests, the 14-year-old was reportedly found with crack cocaine.
