Protesters rally against Avelo Airlines over ICE deportation flights

ALBANY, N.Y. — A group of protesters gathered outside the airport on Albany Shaker and Wolf Road, calling for a boycott of Avelo Airlines. The Houston-based low-cost airline has a contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation flights. The rally was organized by the Albany branch of the progressive group “Indivisible.”

Mariana Achlaoug, co-chair of organizing for Indivisible Albany, said, “We’re demanding that Avelo stop using taxpayer dollars, to fund their own pockets and deport humans to places like El Salvador.”

Achlaoug added, “Luckily it hasn’t started in New York, but we want to make sure our voices are loud and clear, we don’t want them here.”…
