10 shot in Albany, flare gun ignites building in chaotic scene near Empire State Plaza

ALBANY — A violent Friday evening and early Saturday morning in Albany left 10 people with gunshot wounds and a house set ablaze just a block away from where thousands of people celebrated the Fourth of July on the Empire State Plaza.

A suspect who allegedly intended to shoot another person with a flare gun during a fight instead fired and struck a building near the corner of Madison Avenue and South Swan Street, according to police. While flames tore through the structure around 10 p.m., another suspect fired several bullets from a handgun in retaliation, police said.

The gunfire critically wounded a 17-year-old, who was struck in the head. Three others suffered gunshot wounds to their legs. All four had attended the fireworks show and were taken to Albany Medical Center, police said…
