Albany violence sparks ‘Raise the Age” funding fight

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)—Violence in the City of Albany on the 4th of July has Capital Region leaders calling on the state to disperse more funding for Raise the Age services for youth offenders.

Ten people were shot in Albany on the 4th of July, according to the city’s police chief. The three separate incidents primarily involved teenagers. A 17-year-old was shot in the head and is in critical condition, while others sustained non-life threatening injuries. At one of the shootings, a juvenile allegedly fired a flare gun, causing a structure fire that destroyed a home.
