In Albany, majority of flare gun calls involved minors, police say

ALBANY — The city has seen over a dozen incidents involving flare guns in the past year, many of them involving minors, city police say.

Statistics released by the Albany Police Department show 13 incidents occurred from July 1, 2024, to July 7, 2025. At least half of the flare gun calls involved people under 18. A majority stemmed from reported shootings, shots fired or a person with a weapon, but also included a June 25 robbery on Delaware Avenue and an incident involving five juvenile offenders at a Subway sandwich shop on July 6. According to CBS6, the minors were charged with assaulting workers there.
