Woman sentenced to 25 years for Halloween manslaughter in Albany

Albany, NY (WRGB) — 35-year-old Brittany Hawkins has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison for the intentional killing of her neighbor, 28-year-old Daquan Phillips, with her vehicle on Halloween in 2024. The sentence, handed down by Judge Andra Ackerman, also includes five years of post-release supervision following Hawkins’ guilty plea to Manslaughter in the First Degree.

The incident occurred around 8:30 AM on October 31, 2024, when Albany Police responded to the Upper Sky Line Apartments. They found Phillips suffering from severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Investigations revealed that Hawkins had been in an argument with Phillips before she drove her vehicle into him near the intersection of Lark Drive and Manning Boulevard, subsequently crashing into an apartment building. Phillips succumbed to his injuries the following day at Albany Medical Center.
