Albany Attorney Faces Prison After Guilty Plea

An Albany attorney, Luke Malamood, is facing prison time after pleading guilty to assault and criminal contempt charges. On Wednesday (July 16), Malamood, 40, admitted in Albany County Court to second-degree assault and second-degree criminal contempt. These charges stem from incidents involving his ex-wife and ex-girlfriend.

According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Malamood violated a protection order last year by repeatedly emailing, calling, and harassing his ex-wife. In April, he was arrested for striking his ex-girlfriend with a broom and taking her cell phone. Malamood was initially indicted on 21 counts, including stealing beer from a store and attempting to bite a police officer.

Malamood, who has represented several high-profile cases in the Capital Region, could face up to four years in state prison followed by three years of post-release supervision. His sentencing is scheduled for September 24…
