CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Recently we told you about a Capital Region man with strong ties to crime prevention programs who was reaching out to kids through music. Friday evening at the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area pool party in Troy, kids there got to hear the song for the first time.

Eric Thompson, a.k.a. HoodCredit Eric had worked with 518 SNUG violence prevention outreach for years, but now he’s the coordinator with the Albany City Violence Prevention Task Force. In his free time, he tries to reach kids most affected by violence. He released his new rap song, “Ceasefire N Every Town” with the hope that those kids would resonate with it. “I couldn’t have had a better record release party. I didn’t need the nightclub. I had the Boys and Girls Club, and I got honest opinions. I got beautiful feedback.”
The kids said they can relate to the lyrics that encouraged them to turn away from violence. “This song is different because this song is giving a good message,” said one club member.
Another member said his favorite part was, “The hook. He said Mop. Mop, sticks. But it’s like the lingo used for gun violence is like as an undercover word. But I like the song because it gives a message about what the song’s about. It’s just not circling around one thing but a whole message about gun violence.”

They said they will download the song and play it for others to hear. “Most people his age, like if they was type making this song, they do try to put on or like one of those beats from like the eighties and nineties and you know young kids nowadays didn’t grow up with that so I feel like it was good of him to look into what kids are listening to these days,” said one club member…
