Local authorities have announced that they have recovered the body of a man who was reported missing in Upstate New York.
According to the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), a routine welfare check turned into a tragic discovery after deputies found a man’s body in a creek.
Man Goes Missing After Swimming in Middleburgh, NY
It all started to unfold on Sunday, July 13th, when, according to police, Brandon Murphy had planned to go swimming in the Schoharie Creek in Middleburgh, NY, and never returned. Murphy was later reported missing to local authorities, which then prompted an investigation.
At approximately 8:49 a.m. on Monday, July 14th, 2025, SCSO deputies were called to check on the welfare of Murphy, who was last seen swimming in the Schoharie Creek in Middleburgh, NY. Upon arrival, officers located personal belongings that belonged to Murphy along the creek and began to search the area.

Multiple first responders from various agencies began a coordinated search, hoping to find Murphy, including the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, NYS Police Dive Team, NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWIFT water team, Schoharie County Search and Rescue, and several area fire and EMS departments.
Body Discovered
The search went on for over 8 hours, and at approximately 5:36 p.m., first responders discovered Murphy’s body in the creek. His remains were removed from the creek, and he was transported to Ellis Hospital by the Schoharie County Coroner…
