Mother of Westerlo victim returns to the site of the crash, calls on officials to step up

WESTERLO, N.Y. — Nearly three weeks after a tragic crash at the intersection of County Route 401 and 404 claimed the life of Jessica Rowanski, the town of Westerlo is urging Albany County to install a blinking red light at the site. The request, supported by nearly 2,000 signatures, aims to prevent further accidents at the dangerous intersection.

Betty Napoli, the mother of Jessica Rowanski, revisited the crash site, expressing her grief and gratitude for the community’s support. “My daughter did not have to die like this,” she said. Napoli described the town’s residents as “loving and remorseful,” adding, “They’re sick of coming to accidents and deaths.”

On July 15, the Westerlo town board unanimously agreed to formally request the traffic signal from the county. Town Supervisor Matthew Kryzak confirmed, “The board is unanimous for the request of linking the traffic signal at county with 401 and 404 and that request would be in writing with a full-to-word signature sent to the county.”…
