Governor Hochul announces $5.1M for Capital Region gun violence reduction efforts

Albany, NY (WRGB) — Governor Hochul has announced over $5.1 million in funding for law enforcement agencies in New York’s Capital Region to bolster efforts in reducing gun violence. The funding is part of the state’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative.

In a release, it says shooting incidents with injury in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy have decreased by 49 percent, with a 53 percent reduction in shooting victims from January through June 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of public safety, stating,

My top priority is public safety, and since taking office, my administration has been laser-focused on working with local law enforcement to drive down gun violence across New York communities. New York’s GIVE initiative is a crucial part of our comprehensive plan to reduce shootings and firearm-related violent crime — and it’s working.
