Police bodycam footage aids conviction of 21-year-old in Albany weapons case

Albany, NY (WRGB) — 21-year-old Arron Edmonds has been convicted by a jury for possessing an illegal handgun and a high-capacity magazine, Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today. Edmonds was found guilty of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree following a three-day jury trial presided over by the Honorable Roger McDonough.

The conviction stems from an incident on August 16, 2024, when Albany Police responded to a domestic dispute at an apartment on Clinton Avenue. Officers discovered Edmonds in a hallway with a large capacity ammunition feeding device capable of holding 31 rounds in his pocket and several rounds of ammunition scattered near his feet. A subsequent search revealed a Glock 17 handgun in a nearby bag, which had been reported stolen in Colonie on October 29, 2017.

During his arrest, Edmonds attempted to deceive police by claiming he was his brother, Aaron Edmonds. The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorneys Bryanne Brucato and Hannah Merges, presented police body camera footage from the day of the arrest as evidence to the jury…
