Like Troy, Rensselaer plans to create dog detainment facility

RENSSELAER — City officials plan to create a dog detainment facility in an effort to ease continuing animal sheltering challenges.

The prefabricated, volunteer-run facility would be attached to the police department on Broadway and include multiple kennels to handle dogs for up to five days at a time. Officials hope to have it completed by late August or September.

The city’s Common Council has approved the project, which comes with an intial cost of $29,000 for the modular building…
