Albany Man sentenced on gun charges from incident at Colonie hotel

ALBANY — An Albany man was sentenced Friday, July 25 to five years in state prison for illegal possession of a stolen handgun found in his vehicle at a Colonie hotel last December.

Stephen Johnson, 49, received the sentence from Judge Roger McDonough, which also includes three years of post-release supervision.

Johnson had pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree on May 22.

The charges stemmed from an incident on Dec. 9, 2024, when Colonie Police patrol officers were conducting a “hot spot” policing effort at the Albany Airport Inn, located at 200 Wolf Road, just after 1 a.m. Officers observed a vehicle occupied by Johnson blocking a handicapped parking space…
