“You put my family in danger for the last time.” Homeowner threatens lawsuit over speeding

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — A Schenectady homeowner says he is considering legal action against the city, claiming repeated car crashes have endangered his family. Tracey Collins said his property on Kings Road and Queen Philomena Boulevard has been struck by vehicles eight times in recent years. He is demanding further safety measures, which he believes could prevent future incidents.

Collins shared a video capturing a near-miss incident on Saturday, when a car sped around a vehicle by using the wrong lane. “We had a vehicle coming from the bridge. The vehicle was doing the 25, and we thank that person for doing the 25. But there was another vehicle coming down, a good 25, 50 miles an hour from the bridge, passed the vehicle at the curve here, doing quite a bit of speed,” Collins said. “My neighbor and I both dropped it around in fear for our safety.”

Collins says he was outside working to extend a guardrail installed by the city more than a year ago, after his request for an extension went unanswered. The city recently approved a measure limiting truck traffic on Kings Road to 8-ton vehicles making local deliveries only. Previous measures included adding a crosswalk and narrowing lanes. Despite these changes, Collins said some drivers continue to exceed the 25 mph speed limit, reaching speeds of 40, 50, and even 60 mph…
