Albany County offers cash for guns in new buyback initiative

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A mobile gun buyback program has launched in Albany County. It will allow people to turn in guns and receive money in return.

The unit will be going to different neighborhoods and offering $350 for any operable handgun, no questions asked. There is also a $750 reward to anyone who provides credible information that leads to the recovery of an illegal gun.

“We want the guns off the street. Period,” Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said. “Enough is enough, so we’ll have a gun buyback. We have lost enough lives in this county. We’ve had enough shootings in the county, so we’ll have a gun buyback program. Or, if you know someone possessing, we’re going to incentivize you a little bit. We want the guns.”
