Mayor: Man died by suicide after standoff with police in Cohoes

COHOES — An armed man allegedly killed himself on Wednesday morning while in a residence near Remsen Street. He was surrounded by police following a reported domestic dispute.

The man, who has not yet been identified, had previously shot two rounds at a state trooper’s shield around 7:40 a.m. and the trooper returned fire, according to State Police and Cohoes Mayor Bill Keeler, a retired trooper.

Negotiations with the individual, which had been ongoing for several hours, ended with the man allegedly shooting himself inside the home after 8 a.m., the mayor said…
