A woman who smuggled synthetic drugs into New York prisons by disguising them as legal mail will spend more than eight years in federal prison.
Maya McIntosh, 33, of Albany, was sentenced July 31 for multiple drug conspiracy charges and for unlawfully using someone else’s identity, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York. Prosecutors said she made MDMB-4en-PINACA, a synthetic cannabinoid, by mixing ordered chemicals in her home, then soaking the liquid into paper and envelopes bound for inmates.
Investigators said McIntosh stamped the names of real attorneys on the return addresses without permission to make the packages look legitimate. She sold the drug-soaked sheets through social media, and her customers paid her to send them to state correctional facilities.
