NYC man arrested in elaborate Coeymans grand larceny scheme

COEYMANS — A New York City man has been arrested and charged in a grand larceny scheme that defrauded a Coeymans resident of $24,000 last year, police announced.

Wei Lin, 32, a Chinese national from College Point, Flushing, was arrested on July 9 after a year-long investigation led by the Town of Coeymans Police Department. He faces one count of third-degree grand larceny, one count of fifth-degree conspiracy, and one count of first-degree scheme to defraud.

The charges stem from an incident on June 6, 2024, when a Coeymans resident was contacted by an individual posing as a Microsoft employee who claimed the resident’s computer was infected with a virus. The scammer also claimed the victim’s Mastercard had been compromised for a theft of $24,000…
