Warning: Increased Police Patrols On This Albany Road

Since the beginning of the summer we have seen warning after warning about increased police patrols in the State of New York. They’re really cracking down on distracted driving in particular, but they’ve also made it a point to look at speeders a but more carefully. We saw it first hand in the City of Albany in the fall of 2024 when the speed cameras were placed in several school zones around the city. That has result in millions of dollars in fines.

Around the Capital Region police have beefed up patrols to crack down on those who are trying to break the rules of the road, but right now it looks like their eyes are on Albany. Since this weekend there have been consistent patrols along Washington Avenue and they are all in the same place. My guess is their trying to get people who think they can gun it out of the city, but you’ll just end up with a ticket if you try it.

Police patrolling this spot

Over the weekend I saw consistent police patrols on Washington Avenue in the same spot. The wooded area right before you reach the University at Albany campus. On more than one occasion between Saturday and Sunday I saw drivers pulled over before the medical offices on that road.

It’s not just Albany police that have beefed up their presence in this area. New York State Troopers have also been sitting here, and sometimes there are two of them. Both facing opposite directions to nail speeders heading in both directions…
