Albany Breaks Ground on New Recreation Center

A groundbreaking ceremony is taking place today in Albany, for the Albany South Recreation Center on Hoffman Avenue. The new facility will serve as a hub for recreational and community activities. Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Congressman Paul Tonko are among the dignitaries attending the event. The center is funded partly by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), a federal initiative aimed at aiding pandemic recovery efforts.

The City of Albany’s ARPA Leadership Team, which includes Mayor Sheehan and other city officials, played a key role in allocating funds for this project. According to a statement from the city, the ARPA funding aims to support transformative projects that enhance community spaces and services.
