Wilton duo charged with 37 counts of animal cruelty

WILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Two Wilton women are facing 37 counts of animal cruelty charges after being arrested by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office on Friday. The sheriff’s office said Nancy M. Kenny, 72, and Rachael N. Furman, 32, are accused of failing to provide proper food, water, and a clean living space for several animals.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office began the animal cruelty investigation after receiving multiple reports of loose dogs on Loudon Road in Wilton. Below is a list of the animals rescued from both inside and outside of the home when Kenny and Furman were arrested.

Inside the home

  • Eight dogs
  • Four cats
  • Two chickens
  • One duck
  • One rooster
  • One rabbit

Outside the home

  • 14 chickens
  • Three ducks
  • Two turkeys
  • One pig

The Wilton Building Inspector deemed the home condemned after the Saratoga County Hazmat Team found high levels of ammonia in the house. An order from the courts allowed law enforcement to seize the animals and relocate them for proper care.

Kenny and Furman were issued appearance tickets for Wilton Town Court and released. Saratoga County Sheriff Michael H. Zurlo said he is sickened by the situation and the spate of similar calls the department has recently handled.

“Let me be crystal clear – if you abuse animals, we will arrest you and charge you to the fullest extent of the law,” Zurlo said. “This has to stop. Now.”…
