Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday that gun violence has dropped sharply across New York state, with Albany seeing one of the steepest declines. But some residents remain skeptical of the numbers.
New state data shows shooting incidents in Albany fell 53% in the first seven months of 2025 compared to the same period last year. The city recorded 18 shootings from January through July, down from 38 during that stretch in 2024. Shooting victims also dropped from 48 to 26, according to state officials.
“That’s impossible, that’s literally impossible,” said longtime Albany resident Lord Wilkerson, who declined to appear on camera. “You’re always hearing about some type of shooting… there’s always something going on so those numbers are lies for sure, especially after Fourth of July.”…
