Coxsackie, NY (WRGB) — NYSCOPBA releasing details about a two-day contraband sweep at Greene Correctional Facility. They say the sweep led to the recovery of a significant number of illegal items, including cellphones, drugs, and weapons. The operation began on August 21 when an officer discovered two blue coffee cans between perimeter fences containing cellphones and over 4,000 Ecstasy pills.
The officer, assigned to perimeter patrol, retrieved the cans at approximately 8 AM. The cans also contained two cellphones with chargers, earbud headphones, 233 grams of marijuana, tobacco, cigars, air freshening spray, and the Ecstasy pills, officials said. It is believed the cans were intended for inmates but failed to clear the second fence.
Following the discovery, staff conducted extensive searches of four dorms, uncovering over 500 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, hidden in various locations such as dryer vents and sink rooms.
