Hoosick Falls residents take on feral cat surge with little resources

HOOSICK FALLS — Willow was a stray cat. Two of her kittens, Wilbur and Wilton, were born without an owner.

Hoosick Falls resident Tammie Woods rescued the trio from an abandoned property on Aug. 30 with the intent of making sure they wouldn’t fall ill, die or worsen cat population control challenges in the area.

And according to local rescuers like Woods, who houses a dozen cats at full capacity in home boarding condos, the local feral cat surge hasn’t appeared to stabilize since the coronavirus pandemic, when pet adoptions soared and a bevy of animals were subsequently surrendered.
