Albany man accused of firing shots at birdwatchers in Cohoes

COHOES — An Albany man has been charged after allegedly shooting at two women who were birdwatching Friday afternoon in Cohoes, according to city police.

The two women, both 26 years old, told police they were birdwatching on the Cohoes side of the Cohoes-Waterford Bridge when they saw, through their binoculars, a man in camouflage behind a moving truck on Ontario Street. The man was by the riverbank, shooting at birds and into the water when he saw them, turned and allegedly aimed his rifle in their direction, said Cohoes police Chief Todd Waldin.

“That’s when they ducked down, and that’s when they could hear branches above them getting hit and water to the side of them,” Waldin said. “They said they could hear the rounds hitting that.”…
