Adam Sandler, Kevin James visit Albany coffee shop after show

ALBANY — Motor Oil Coffee regularly serves politicians at its cafe on State Street near City Hall and the state Capitol, but its biggest brush with fame so far happened Wednesday when comedian and actor Adam Sandler stopped in the morning after performing for a sold-out crowd of nearly 11,000 at the nearby MVP Arena.

Sandler and fellow comedian Kevin James, who also did a stand-up set Tuesday night during the show as part of Sandler’s “You’re My Best Friend” tour, ordered black coffee and water and did about 45 minutes of work on their laptops, said Motor Oil owner Jermaine Carter. The cafe’s manager, Carter’s daughter Mariah Carter, told him they were “super nice,” he said. After leaving, the comics walked up the State Street hill, suggesting they’d likely stayed overnight at the Renaissance Albany Hotel, he said.

“We’ve served some (professional) wrestlers and the crew from ‘The Gilded Age,’” when the HBO television series was shooting locally, Carter said, “but nobody as famous as” Sandler and James…
