Schenectady Man Charged in $235,000 Macy’s Jewelry Heist, Faces Bail and Bans in New York

A New York man faces a $5,000 bail after his arraignment on Monday for smashing a Macy’s jewelry display with a brick and attempting to loot over $235,000 worth of jewels, as announced by Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden. Ronald Paige, 49, of Schenectady was charged with multiple offenses, including larceny over $1,200 and possession of a burglarious instrument, according to a statement from the District Attorney’s Office.

With open warrants for similar offenses in Middlesex County, Paige was recognized by Macy’s security from a previous shoplifting incident. Using a brick, he breached a glass jewelry case worth approximately $7,000 on Tuesday, September 9, around 4:50 p.m. After shattering the display at the Downtown Crossing location, he began to gather jewelry before security intervened. Judge James Stanton ordered that Paige, if released, must steer clear of Macy’s.
