13 Investigates filed a FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) request for Albany, Schenectady, Amsterdam, Cohoes, and Troy to see how many water main breaks these cities had over a 12-month span. Information returned to us showed that there were hundreds of them, with the main cause being aging infrastructure.
One of the cities that NewsChannel 13 put a FOIL request into was denied — Cohoes. The city told NewsChannel 13 that they don’t keep track of water main breaks.
