DA: Albany man admits to brutal beating of girlfriend with hammer

ALBANY — An 18-year-old Albany man faces up to 20 years in prison after admitting to beating his pregnant girlfriend with a hammer, which caused her to lose her unborn baby, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

Tylique Young, who prosecutors say was the father of the child, pleaded guilty to a five-count indictment before Judge Andra Ackerman in Albany County Court on Thursday. He’s charged with two counts of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree kidnapping and two counts of third-degree robbery, all felonies. The kidnapping and robbery charges accused him of taking the woman’s phone and car keys.

Young held his girlfriend hostage in his bedroom, inside his apartment on Orange Street, for several hours overnight on May 15 and May 16, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office. He also stole her cellphone and hit her “numerous times” with a hammer, the news release states…
