Albany’s Bath House No. 2 on the market for redevelopment

ALBANY — Bath House No. 2, a historic landmark of Albany’s early 20th-century public health movement, is on the market through a city-issued request for proposals (RFP).

The Fourth Avenue building, located in the South End/Groesbeckville Historic District, was one of three public bath houses built to provide residents with warm indoor plumbing at a time when it was still a luxury. Constructed in 1906, it served Albany-area families until 2010, when an engineering report revealed the pool was leaking up to 12,000 gallons, leading to its closure.
