After manhunt, Cohoes man charged with murder in girlfriend’s death

ALBANY — Murder and other charges were filed Monday against Anthony Bechand, the man authorities believe killed his girlfriend in their Cohoes home before disappearing for days in the Adirondack Mountains.

The 53-year-old was arraigned Monday afternoon by acting state Judge Roger McDonough in Albany County Court. Bechand has been in custody since he was captured on Friday after being seen walking down the road near Paul Smith’s College.

Bechand pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and evidence tampering. The judge ordered him to stay away from relatives of his alleged victim, Amanda Rodriguez…
