Police identify suspect in 1964 murder of Albany woman

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT) — Albany Police on Wednesday identified the person they believe killed a woman more than 60 years ago.

Fifty-year-old Catherine Blackburn was found dead in her home in September 1964. Blackburn’s nearly nude body was mutilated. She had been sexually assaulted, stabbed repeatedly and burned with a hot instrument.

The case had not been solved. However, advances in DNA technology helped make a breakthrough. Albany Police Chief Brendan Cox said the suspect is a man named Joseph Stanley Nowakowski, who was born 1931 and died in 1998…
