Tenants of The Amsdell in Albany unionize, call for improved living conditions

ALBANY — When Kira Bruno moved into The Amsdell, an apartment building in Albany, in December 2024, she looked forward to “restarting” her life after moving out of New York City. Two weeks in, the 27-year-old said she had lost heat and hot water.

“I was kind of walking in expecting everything to be working perfectly,” Bruno said. “Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.”

Bruno said she came across more issues in the building situated at 175 Jay St., including unsteady floors, mold, pest infestations, paint chipping, metal protruding from hallway walls and exposed electrical wiring…
