ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Gloversville Police arrested an Albany man on Tuesday after a shooting investigation. Alexander Capps Jr., 28, is facing numerous charges.

On October 14 around 2:30 p.m., police responded to a house on Sixth Avenue between Helwig Street and Kingsboro Avenue in Gloversville following up on reports of a shooting. Arriving officers were told by witnesses that Capps allegedly fired a handgun at multiple victims in the area before fleeing the scene.
Detectives determined that no one was injured during the incident, but several children were also in the vicinity at the time, and the exterior of a nearby home was struck by gunfire. Capps is accused of committing the shooting as a hate crime during a domestic dispute, reportedly firing his weapon due to the race of one of the victims, according to GPD.

Law enforcement later located Capps’ vehicle at a residence in Albany and took him into custody. He now faces the following charges:
- First-degree reckless endangerment – hate crime
- 11 counts of first-degree reckless endangerment
- Second-degree criminal use of a firearm
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal possession of a firearm
- Second-degree menacing – hate crime
- Five counts of endangering the welfare of a child
- Three counts of second-degree menacing
Capps was held at the Fulton County Jail on a $25,000 cash bail, a $75,000 insurance bail bond, or a $150,000 surety bond after being arraigned at the City of Gloversville Court. State Police, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, and the Albany, Colonie, Johnstown, and Canajoharie Police Departments assisted Gloversville Police with the arrest.
